Depression & Anxiety
Drug & Alcohol Addiction
My mission is to provide excellent care that is both personalized and evidence-based. Each of my clients will feel and be welcome, regardless of race, socio-economic status, gender and/or sexual orientation. I will go above and beyond working for your health and sense of well-being. It is equally important to me that I further my education to ensure that I am growing alongside my clients so that I continue to offer you the best care possible.
I have over 25 years experience helping people recover from a variety of disorders and other issues. I enjoy working with male and female clients, young and old, of all sexual orientations and ethnic backgrounds. During an in-depth evaluation you and I will decide if we are a good match for each other and if so, we will develop treatment goals together. We will monitor your progress periodically to make sure we are on track.
One of my specialities is in relational therapy. I have extensive training in
Imago therapy and enjoy working with one or both members of a couple on
ways to help improve their quality of communication, ability to emotionally support each other and deepen the experience of intimacy. Resistance to intimacy and destructive patterns will also be explored and gradually shifted.
One of my original specialities was developed at The Renfrew center, a world renowned center for Eating Disorders where I worked for eight years early in my career. I work closely with a nutritionist and/or a physician to tailor treatment to your needs. An extensive evaluation will also determine an appropriate level of care. Referrals to a higher level of care will be made as needed.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
I have training in EMDR and other PTSD techniques that have proven to be highly successful in the treatment of trauma. I will complete an in-depth evaluation and tailor the use of these techniques to your individual circumstances and needs, always with an emphasis on safety and developing a healthy shield against triggers that might be re-traumatizing.
Alcohol & Drug Addictions
My first job in the field was on an adult unit of a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. I have maintained an interest in this field and find my clients have a lot of success when they are also attending a twelve step program. I am not wedded to this approach when someone has had a bad experience with it but I have generally found it very helpful in combination with weekly psychotherapy.
Family therapy can be difficult to schedule but when it is possible it can be a tremendously powerful form of therapy. Every family member, even the youngest, has a voice of their own and has something that needs to be said and heard. Family therapy can provide the safety and the context for difficult things to be said that might otherwise be avoided, repressed or turned into symptomatic behavior.
